My new car has huge scratch. All the way to the basecoat!

The car has been parked, so somebody must have hit it with something.

And your insurance company. You might be covered for damage when a victim of a hit and run. And the police, to file a report, if you're certain it was by someone else.

not a hit and run -- car is parked by curb, with passanger side towards the sidewalk, passanger door is scratched, thus it wasn't another car. Might have been a bike or somebodys bag or something.

I plan to find out who did it and beat them to death. with a nerf bat.

the autopsy will report cause of death as "blunt force trauma from foam bat"
